Rudolph Angermüller

Rudolph Angermüller (born September 2, 1940 in Gadderbaum near Bielefeld ) is a German musicologist who made great contributions to Mozart in particular .

Life

Angermüller graduated from the Bielefeld Försterling Conservatory for Music in 1961 (piano, double bass, music theory). From 1961 to 1970 he studied musicology at the universities of Mainz , Münster and Salzburg with Arnold Schmitz , Günther Massenkeil , Hellmut Federhofer and Gerhard Croll , as well as Romance studies and history. In 1970 he received his doctorate from the University of Salzburg with a thesis on Antonio Salieri . From 1968 to 1975 he was a lecturer at the Musicological Institute of the University of Salzburg. From 1982 to 2004 he was head of the scientific department of the International Mozarteum Foundation , from 1988 to 2004 its general secretary. In view of his numerous publications on Mozart and the music history of the 18th and early 19th centuries, he is considered one of the world's best Mozart experts. After the film “ Amadeus ”, a model trial was carried out in Milan in which Rudolph Angermüller took over the role of Salieri's defender.

Since 1995 he has been a corresponding member of the Accademia Roveretana degli Agiati .
