Hans-Joachim Hallier

Hans-Joachim Hallier (born April 25, 1930 in Offenbach am Main ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school in Frankfurt, Hallier studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . He joined the Foreign Service in Bonn. Hallier was attaché to the German NATO delegation in Paris in 1960/61 . After posting abroad in Jakarta (1962–1966) and Tokyo (1966–1969), he was Director in the Foreign Office from 1970 to 1974 and Head of the Central Department from 1983 to 1986.

Hallier was the German ambassador to Malaysia (1974–1976), Indonesia (1980–1983), Japan (1986–1989) and to the Holy See (1990–1995).

He has been married to Almuth H. Frantz since 1966; the marriage has two children. He lives in Rheinbreitbach .
