Life

Hennig was the eldest son of the doctor Wolfgang Franz Erich Hennig and the housewife Alice Helene Kaprolat. He grew up in Rotenbek am Sachsenwald near Hamburg , Parchim , Gebesee and Suhl . Already as a child he painted and drew diligently. The drawing teacher Brömse at the boarding school in Neudietendorf encouraged him to work as an artist and to apply for two applications to study painting at the art college in Berlin-Weißensee , which were unsuccessful.

At the hospital in Meiningen , he completed 1963-1965 a skilled worker training as a nurse. After completing his military service, he worked as an employee at the cultural center in Suhl from 1967 to 1969. From 1969 to 1973 he studied cultural studies at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . After that he worked in the department of culture - education of the FDGB in Leipzig until 1977 . From 1977 to 1990 he worked in the office for industrial design in Dresden. After the dissolution of this institution, he worked in the cultural association “reiter e. V. “in Dresden. During this time he took up intensive artistic work and became a member of the Dresden Artists' Association.

From his marriage to the art historian Gitta-Kristine Hennig , b. Albert, a son, Sebastian Hennig , who is also active as a visual artist and also as a publicist, and a daughter, Adele, were born. Hennig has been using a studio in the building of the former Eberhard Päßler KG at the Mickten windmill since 2010 .

Hennig already painted and drew in his youth and during military service. But the actual artistic work was not created until the fall of the Wall in 1990, when the exemption from regular employment gave him time for artistic work. In the last twenty-five years of his life, he progressively developed his idiosyncratic style from abstraction to object. In addition to painting, graphics and drawings, Hennig also designed happenings and made material collages and installations in the nineties.
