Hans-Peter Braun (musician)

Hans-Peter Braun (born January 30, 1950 in Tübingen ) is a German university professor, church musician, cantor, organist and composer. From 1995 to 2015 he was the music director of the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen .

Life

Braun studied church music at the University of Church Music in Esslingen and at the State University of Music Trossingen . As a church musician, he became district cantor in Aalen in 1978 , and from 1981 district cantor in Trossingen. Since 1980 he has also taught as a lecturer for composition and music theory at the State University of Music in Trossingen. From 1983 to 2005 he was training advisor in the Association of Evangelical Church Music in Württemberg.

Hans-Peter Braun was appointed church music director (KMD) in 1990 and in 1995 appointed monastery music director (SMD) of the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen . In addition to the musical work and teaching activities in the Evangelical Monastery , the direction of the choir of the Evangelical Monastery and the vocal ensemble Vocifer , he is also the first organist of the Tübingen Collegiate Church . In 2014 he was awarded the title of honorary professor by the Senate of the State University of Music in Tübingen for many years of work as a lecturer in the subjects of composition and music theory. He has been retired since June 1, 2015. Since October 2015 he has been teaching liturgical organ at the State University for Music in Trossingen. In addition to works for church music practice, he also wrote larger organ cycles, choral works and song cycles (e.g. on poets from the Tübingen monastery (Mörike, Hölderlin etc.).
