Hans-Peter Drögemüller (in modern Greek transcription: Ιωάννης Πέτρος Ντρεγκεμήλερ; born March 10, 1932 in Hamburg ; † August 19, 2015 in Heist ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

Life

After studying classical philology , Drögemüller received his doctorate in 1956 at the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on the parables in the Hellenistic epic written by Hartmut Erbse . Drögemüller then published a larger work on the city of Syracuse and, in addition to various essays, made a number of contributions to volumes 3 (1969) to 5 (1975) by Little Pauly .

As a Graecist , Drögemüller, like others of his generation (especially Hans Eideneier ), was one of the pioneers in considering the modern Greek language and literature. He has published variously in this field, most recently the first complete translation of the Hymn to Freedom by Dionysios Solomos , from which the text of the Greek national anthem is taken. In order to teach languages to Greeks, he had already written a short teaching of German in Greek at the beginning of the 1960s.

As a high school teacher, Drögemüller also published didactic and subject-related literature.

Drögemüller had finally emerged as the author of a widely used account of the Iranian Revolution .
