Life

Hans Böttcher was self-taught, but took painting technique lessons from Gustav Richter and received instruction in graphic techniques from Karl Böhm. During the Second World War, hundreds of his oil paintings and over three thousand drawings were destroyed in a bombing. In 1945 Böttcher was one of the first artists in Berlin to try to rebuild the city's ruined cultural life. After 1945, Böttcher oriented himself towards different styles such as Cubism , Informel or abstract painting and Surrealism . His works were exhibited in 1964 in the art cabinet at the Schillertheater and in 1973 in the Graphothek Berlin.
