Hans Baumgarten (journalist)

Hans Baumgarten (born January 4, 1900 in Berlin , † March 24, 1968 in Königstein im Taunus ) was a German journalist and editor .

Career

Baumgarten worked as a business journalist in the 1920s. In 1933 he became editor-in-chief of the Berliner Börsen-Courier , and in the following year he changed to the German economist in the same position . After he was hired during World War II, he worked as a freelancer. From 1946 he was an editor for the Wirtschafts-Zeitung in Stuttgart, from 1948 the chief correspondent of the Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung .

In autumn 1949 he founded the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung together with Erich Dombrowski , Karl Korn , Paul Sethe and Erich Welter . From 1949 to 1965 he was one of the editors, from 1959 he was a member of their board of directors.

Honors

In 1965 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
