Hans Bay (born June 22, 1913 in Dimboola , Victoria , Australia ; † October 30, 2009 in Calw ) was a German politician ( GVP , SPD , Die Linke ).

Life and work

After attending school, Bay trained as a naturopath and then worked in this profession. He lived in Calw from the late 1930s. He took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1939 to 1945 and was most recently taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in 1948.

Political party

Bay joined the GVP in 1953 and was elected district chairman of the party. After the GVP dissolved itself in 1957, he joined the SPD. He was also involved in the peace movement for years , opened Easter marches several times and sharply criticized the alleged German war policy.

In January 2005 he left the SPD and in May 2005 he joined the WASG . The reasons he cited were the SPD's social cutbacks, in particular the Hartz IV laws, which he could no longer support. Most recently Bay was an honorary member of the party "Die Linke".

MP

Bay was a council member of the city of Calw since 1956 and was later elected to the district council of the district of Calw . He belonged to the German Bundestag from December 20, 1960, when he replaced the late MP Friedrich Maier , until 1961 and again from 1969 to 1972. In both election periods he was drawn into parliament via the state list of the SPD Baden-Württemberg .
