Hans Benedikter

Hans Benedikter (born January 27, 1940 in Prettau , South Tyrol / Italy ) is a former regional politician and long-time member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP).

Life

Benedikter was born as the eighth child of a family of mountain farmers in Prettau in the Ahrntal Valley. He graduated from the Benedictine secondary school Seitenstetten in Lower Austria and then studied modern political history at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1962. From 1958 to 1961 Benedikter worked as a journalist for the Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse , then until 1972 for the press office of the South Tyrolean provincial government in Bolzano .

Benedikter's political career began in 1961 in the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP). In 1967 he was a member of the party committee for the first time, and in 1970 of the party leadership for the first time. From 1970 to 1976 he was also the first SVP youth advisor.

Benedikter held his first public office from 1967 to 1971 as the mayor of his home community Prettau. In 1972 he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies , where he was a member of the SVP group without interruption until 1992. After leaving Parliament, Benedikter distanced himself from the South Tyrolean People's Party and also withdrew from the political public.
