Hans Benninghaus

Hans Benninghaus (born February 16, 1935 in Lüdenscheid ; † December 4, 2007 ) was a German sociologist .

Benninghaus attended the municipal evening high school in Cologne from 1956 and graduated from high school in 1960. He then studied economics and social sciences at the Universities of Cologne and Vienna until 1967 . In 1967 he was awarded a degree in economics in the social sciences in Cologne, and in 1975 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD .

From 1967 to 1980 he was a research associate at René Königs at the Research Institute for Sociology, including at the Defense Sociological Research Center, then at the Department of Sociology at the University of Cologne, most recently as Senior Academic Councilor . Between 1970 and 1979 he also taught at the universities of Dortmund , Duisburg and Wuppertal .

From 1980 to 2000 he was professor of sociology, especially empirical social research and social statistics, at the Technical University of Berlin .

Benninghaus' textbooks Descriptive Statistics and Introduction to Social Science Data Analysis have been repeatedly reissued.

Hans Benninghaus died in December 2007 at the age of 72. His grave is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: II-Seeweg-29).
