Hans Bolsterer (also Hans Bölsterer , Hans Polster and Hans Polsterer ; * verifiable from 1540; † December 26 or 29, 1573 in Nuremberg ) was a German sculptor, carver and medalist .

The origin, place of birth and date of birth of Hans Bolsterer are unknown, as are the circumstances of his education. It is first documented for the year 1540, when he was active in Nuremberg. In 1551 he acquired the city's civil rights and married. In addition, stays in Frankfurt am Main and Rödelheim are documented for the years 1546 and 1548 .

His main field of activity was the production of portrait medals, of which over 30 examples have survived. In addition to nobles, including Emperor Karl V , he mainly portrayed Frankfurt and Nuremberg citizens. In addition, he created a number of smaller ornaments, which probably served as models for goldsmith's work, and several epitaphs and tombs.

While his medals and ornaments are of high artistic quality, he did not succeed in transferring this high standard to his great works of art. In addition to the tomb of Weigand von Rednitz , which was completed in 1557 and is located in the Michaelskirche in Bamberg , a cartouche with female masks , which was created around 1560 and is now in the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg , has been preserved among major works of art . A coat of arms of Wolf Müntzer von Babenberg kept in the same place is also attributed to him for stylistic reasons.

Hans Bolsterer signed some of his works with the initials HB and a cross-shaped master's mark placed in between.
