Hans Walter Clauser (born March 20, 1931 in Mörsch near Karlsruhe , † June 2, 2009 in Ettlingen ) was a German teacher and trade unionist.

Origin and private life

Clauser was the youngest son of Paula Clauser, b. Eckert (housewife), and Josef Clauser (secondary school teacher). In 1960 he married Ingeborg Preis (1929–1996); the marriage remained childless. His two older brothers were the high school teacher Ewald Clauser and the doctor Günter Clauser .

Education and professional career

Hans Clauser attended primary school in Mörsch and the Goethe-Gymnasium in Karlsruhe. Like his father, he embarked on a teaching career, but in addition to studying to be a teacher, he also successfully completed a vocal training up to the stage maturity as a baritone. From 1956 he worked as a teacher in the Karlsruhe Hardt School and the Schiller School. Between 1973 and 1987 he headed the Rüppurr secondary school. Funded by a scholarship from the renowned Fulbright Program , Hans Clauser spent a year as a teacher at a high school in New York City (USA) from 1968 to 1969.

Social work

In December 1954 he joined the Association of Badischer Lehrer, which later became part of the Education and Science Union ( GEW ). He was active there all his life: as a shop steward at the school, district chairman of the GEW Karlsruhe, district and honorary chairman of the GEW North Baden, deputy state chairman of the GEW in Baden-Württemberg, main staff council in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education and chair of the district staff council for the basic , Haupt-, Werkreal-, Real-, community and special schools. As the representative of the GEW main board for the German-French teacher exchange, he was very committed to the German-French understanding.

Clauser was one of the founding members and on the board of the Friends' Association Memorial Site for the Freedom Movements in German History in Rastatt Castle . There he worked in a variety of ways, including training volunteer guides. He also played a key role in the concept and catalog of the Baden-Württemberg State Exhibition 1998/1999 Revolution of the German Democrats in Baden 1848/49 in the Baden State Museum in Karlsruhe.

On October 26, 2005, Federal President Horst Köhler recognized his diverse services with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. In addition, in 2008 he received the title “Badener of the Year” from the Association Bund Freiheit instead of Baden-Württemberg .
