Hans Darmstadt

Hans Darmstadt (born September 3, 1943 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German church musician , composer and university professor .

In 1962 Darmstadt passed the church music C examination at the church music school in Schlüchtern, and in 1964 the B examination at the church music school in Frankfurt / Main. After graduating from high school in 1963, he studied educational science at the University of Frankfurt (1st state examination in 1967), composition with Konrad Lechner (1965–69) and Günther Becker (1969–72). From 1967 to 1973 he worked as a church musician in Griesheim . In 1969 he passed the A exam. In 1973 he moved to Hamburg-Blankenese as a church musician , and in 1994 he was appointed church music director at the St. Martin church in Kasselcalled. In 2006 he quit his work there and was awarded the Heinrich Schütz Medal in farewell. Darmstadt taught music theory and composition at the Lübeck University of Music from 1976 to 2008 . In 1992 he was appointed professor . Publications as a composer and author.

His younger brother is the cellist and university professor Gerhart Darmstadt .
