Hans Dieter Schäfer

Hans Dieter Schäfer (born September 7, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German writer and literary scholar .

Hans Dieter Schäfer studied German , history and philosophy in Vienna and Kiel. From 1974 to 2004 he was a lecturer in modern German literature at the University of Regensburg , which honored him with an extensive exhibition when he left. His book The Split Consciousness attracted attention beyond Germany . About German culture and everyday life 1933–1945 .

Schäfer was known to the poet Wilhelm Lehmann (1882–1968), whose works he edited. In addition to research on literary and everyday history, Schäfer published several volumes of poems and autobiographical prose. In 1975 he was awarded the Literature Prize of the Free State of Bavaria and is a member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature .
