Hans Fischer (diplomat)

Hans Fischer (born July 5, 1924 in Eisenach ; † July 31, 1983 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Uganda and Rwanda as well as in Burma and Thailand .

Life

After passing high school , Fischer did military service . In Italy he became an American prisoner of war . From 1946 to 1952 he studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and graduated as a lawyer. Between 1953 and 1959, Fischer, a member of the SED , held various managerial positions in nationally owned industry and administration.

1959 Fischer entered the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1960 to 1963 he was deputy head of the GDR trade mission in Calcutta , then from 1965 to 1967 deputy head of the consulate general in Dar es Salaam . From 1968 to 1973 Fischer worked as a section head in the Africa department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR .

From July 1973 Fischer was ambassador of the GDR in the Ugandan capital Kampala , and from December 1973 also for Rwanda. From mid-1977 he was accredited as ambassador to Burma and from March 1978 additionally - from Rangoon - as ambassador to Thailand . In 1982 he was replaced.

Fischer was recorded, among other things, with the GDR Medal of Merit .
