Hans Georg von Pöllnitz

Hans Georg von Pöllnitz (* 1577 ; † December 25, 1622 in Regensburg ) was a Saxon politician and owner of the manors Schwarzbach and Oberpöllnitz .

He was the son of Hans Bruno von Pöllnitz (1535–1592). His older brother Bernhard was a Privy Councilor at the Electoral Saxon court in Dresden , where he was promoted to Minister. As ambassador of the Electorate of Saxony, he took part in the Regensburg Princely Congress in 1622 . There he was killed from behind with a knife from behind on December 25, 1622 by his drunken servant Peter Plau. Plau was arrested immediately afterwards and beheaded with a sword the following month. His head and right hand were impaled on the city wall as a deterrent.

Hans Georg von Pöllnitz was married to Anna Petronella von Heil . The couple had the following children:

  • Anna Petronella ⚭ Edward Morgan, whose daughter Mary Elizabeth married her cousin, the privateer Henry Morgan
