Hans Grötzer

Hans Grötzer (born July 5, 1928 in Vienna ; † March 14, 2019 there ) was an Austrian violinist . From 1946 to 1955 he was a member of the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and from 1955 to 1993 in the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper , where he became concertmaster in 1966 .

Life

Hans Grötzer studied violin with Professor Nemeth in Vienna. At the age of 17 he played with the Vienna Philharmonic , in 1946 he became a member of the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera , of which he was a member until 1955. He then moved to the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper , where he became concertmaster in 1966 . On the occasion of his retirement in 1993 he was made an honorary member of the Volksoper.

From the 1950s he played in the ORF Big Band and worked in television productions with Peter Alexander , Caterina Valente , Freddy Quinn and Harald Juhnke, among others . He was also first violinist on recordings by Kurt Sowinetz , André Heller and Georg Danzer and was first violinist in the string quartets of the Vienna Biedermeier Soloists .

Hans Grötzer died in March 2019 at the age of 90.
