Hans Hess (Admiral)

Hans Heß (born May 25, 1929 in Thal , Wartburgkreis ) is a former German naval officer , most recently Rear Admiral of the People's Navy .

Life

Hess, the son of a car mechanic, worked as a machine fitter from 1944 to 1945 after graduating from high school. He studied social sciences from 1946 to 1950 and became a member of the SED in 1947 . He joined the armed organs of the GDR on November 18, 1950 as a student at the Parow Sea Police School , which he graduated from in 1951. From 1951 to 1953 he served as the deputy commander for political work in a company and then until 1955 as a senior instructor at the Unterführer and Team School of the People's Police See in Parow. From 1955 to 1959 he completed higher courses for officers at the Military Political Academy in Moscow and was subsequently employed until 1961 as deputy chief and head of the political department of a torpedo speedboat brigade. The social scientist continued this activity from 1962 to 1963 in the 4th flotilla and from 1963 to 1970 in the 6th flotilla of the People's Navy. From 1970 to 1982 he was deputy commander and head of the political department of the officers' college of the Volksmarine Karl Liebknecht in Stralsund . On October 7, 1982 Hess was appointed Rear Admiral. From 1982 to 1989 he was the successor to Vice Admiral Günter Kutzschebauch, Deputy Head of the People's Navy and Head of Political Administration in the command of the People's Navy. At the same time he was chairman of the ASV Forward of the People's Navy. He was released into retirement on December 31, 1989.
