Life

Kutzschebauch was born the son of a painter and shoemaker. After the war he began training as an agricultural assistant. In 1946 he joined the FDJ , in 1947 he became a member of the SED . After his training, Kutzschebauch was secretary for labor and social policy of the FDJ district leadership in Marienberg from 1948 to 1950 .

On August 3, 1950, he joined the newly established armed organs of the GDR. He was initially an employee of the main administration of the Maritime Police , then the People's Police , the forerunners of the People's Navy . In 1950 and 1951, Kutzschebauch was trained as a naval officer at the Parow Seepolizeischule , later the "Walter Steffens" non-commissioned officer school. From 1952 until 1953 he was delegated to the officers' school for political work of the KVP in Berlin-Treptow. After completing his studies, he was an instructor in the youth department in the political administration of the KVP and the NVA from 1955 to 1960 . In 1959 he was promoted to Corvette Captain in this capacity. Between 1961 and 1963 Kutzschebauch was delegated to the Soviet Naval War Academy in Leningrad. Afterwards he was deputy chief of the torpedo speedboat brigade of the Sixth Flotilla of the People's Navy. In 1963 he was deputy chief of the 4th Flotilla of the People's Navy and its head of the political department. In 1967 Kutzschebauch was appointed deputy head of the political administration and head of the organization / instruction department at the People's Navy Command. Shortly afterwards, in 1967 and 1968, he completed a correspondence course at the Military Academy in Dresden, graduating with a degree in military science. In 1973 and 1974, Kutzschebauch was delegated to the party college of the CPSU . After his return from Moscow , he was appointed as the successor to Rear Admiral Rudi Wegner, Deputy Chief of the People's Navy and Chief of Political Administration. Kutzschebauch was thus temporarily the third highest officer in the People's Navy. He was appointed Rear Admiral on October 7, 1974 . In 1981 he was promoted to Vice Admiral as one of only 10 officers who ever held this rank in the NVA.

In 1982 Kutzschebauch moved to the Society for Sport and Technology (GST) and was the successor to the late Lieutenant General Günther Teller from November 24, 1982 to January 28, 1990, as chairman of its central board. From 1986 to 1990 he was also a member of the People's Chamber and a member of the Committee on National Defense. Kutzschebauch was released from the NVA on April 30, 1990 and retired. The vice admiral and last GST chairman could not get over the end of the GDR and “his” life's work and attempted suicide , as a result of which he died in 1996 (see R. Rosentreter 2000, p. 263).
