Hans Heinrich Hansen (born June 26, 1938 in Hadersleben ) is a veterinarian and was President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) until 2016 . He was also the chief chairman of the German minority in Denmark for many years .

Life and work

Hans Heinrich Hansen studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen, where he graduated as a veterinarian in 1963. From 1966 he ran the first small animal hospital in North Schleswig in Heisagger / Hejsager . Hansen comes from a long-established family of pharmacists in Hadersleben who have always counted themselves to the German part of the population in North Schleswig.

From 1993 to 2006 Hans Heinrich Hansen was the main chairman of the German minority in Denmark, and from 1994 to 2007 he was vice-president of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). From 1999 to 2006 he was also chairman of the Working Group of German Minorities in FUEN (AGDM). At the FUEN minority congress in 2007 in Tallinn / Estonia , he was elected President of FUEN, a position he held until 2016.

Special highlights of his tenure as the main chairman of the German minority included:

  • the groundbreaking address in July 1995 on Düppel (Danish: Dybbøl) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of North Schleswig to Denmark , with which the final breakthrough to equality of minority and majority in Denmark was achieved,
  • the visit of Queen Margrethe II and Federal President Roman Herzog in 1998,
  • his keynote speech in 1999 on the 150th anniversary of the Danish Basic Law,
  • the state visit of Federal President Johannes Rau in 2001,
  • the establishment of the North Dialogue Forum in 2004,
  • the 50th anniversary of the Bonn-Copenhagen Declarations in 2005 with the participation of the then Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Minister of State Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Sønderborg ,
  • the successful conclusion of the negotiations on special regulations for the German minority in connection with the Danish municipal reform in 2006,
  • as well as the inauguration of the new "Haus Nordschleswig" in Aabenraa .

Hansen has lived in Egernsund (German: Ekensund ) on the Danish side of the Flensburg Fjord since 2007 .

In 2016, Loránt Vincze was elected to succeed him as President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities .
