Hans Jakob Wörner (art historian)

Hans Jakob Wörner (born June 20, 1941 in Waldshut-Tiengen , † February 13, 2002 in Neuenburg am Rhein ) was a German art historian and monument conservator .

life and work

After completing school in Waldshut and at the St. Blasien college , Wörner studied art history, classical archeology and newspaper studies at the University of Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1966. Gotthard Jedlicka and Peter Meyer were among his teachers .

Wörner initially worked for the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation and then came to the Freiburg branch of the State Office for Monument Preservation Baden-Württemberg in October 1973 .

Before that he was already a volunteer in his hometown Waldshut. In his closer home he also began working as an "area conservator", later also in the Baden-Württemberg districts of Lörrach and Tuttlingen , most recently for many years in the Ortenau district . Wörner also dealt with the abbey church Ottmarsheim in the Alsatian neighborhood of his place of residence Neuenburg am Rhein and published many publications together with his wife Dr. Judith Woerner.

In 1982 the Neuchâtel history and culture group was founded under the chairmanship of Wörner, and he remained chairman until his death. He wrote numerous articles for the magazine of the history association Markgräflerland eV , Das Markgräflerland .
