Gotthard Jedlicka

Gotthard Jedlicka (born May 6, 1899 in Zurich ; † November 9, 1965 in Duisburg ) was a Swiss art historian and writer .

Life

After studying art history in Zurich, Grenoble and Paris, he first worked as a secondary school teacher in Winterthur . In 1928 he obtained his doctorate and in 1934 his habilitation . From 1939 to 1965 he was professor of art history at the University of Zurich . In addition, he worked as the editor of the magazine Galerie und Collector and the art book series of the Scherz-Verlag as well as editor of the Swiss monthly Werk . He also wrote numerous art books and artist monographs , for example on Toulouse-Lautrec , Manet and Brueghel . His estate is in the Zurich Central Library . He found his final resting place in the Enzenbühl cemetery .

Since 1951 he was a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .
