Erhard Richter

Erhard Richter (born July 26, 1927 in Grenzach-Wyhlen ; † July 16, 2019 ) was a German teacher and Markgräfler local history researcher .

Life

family

The Richter family has been in Grenzach since 1729. He was born the younger son of the local forest ranger. Richter married Erika Knoche in 1964 and had a daughter with her, Carola (* 1967).

education and profession

He attended elementary school in Grenzach and then the Hans-Thoma-Oberrealschule in Lörrach. In 1944 Richter had to do the Reich Labor Service and then until the end of the war to the Navy , where he was used to evacuate wounded Wehrmacht members on the ship and was twice affected by the sinking of his ship. After brief British captivity (May to December 1945), he went back to his old school in 1946 and graduated from high school in 1949.

At the beginning of the 1950s, he studied German and Romance languages, initially in Basel and Tübingen . Later in Freiburg the subject of physical education was added. 1957 Richter received his doctorate under Friedrich Maurer . His dissertation “The field names of Wyhlen and Grenzach in their linguistic, settlement history and folklore significance” was published in 1962 as Volume 11 of “Research on the Upper Rhine Regional History” by the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Richter chose the teaching profession and completed his legal clerkship in Freiburg im Breisgau. After a short stopover in Neustadt in the Black Forest , he taught for seven years at the Scheffel-Gymnasium Bad Säckingen . In 1969 he became the first rector of the newly built grammar school in Grenzach and held this position until his retirement in 1990, since 1974 as senior director of studies .

The theater man

In 1966 Richter was co-founder of the Rötteln Castle Festival, whose chairman he was for 36 years (until 2002) and whose last honorary chairman he was. In 17 years Richter also directed and wrote a play ( Margrave Ernst and the Peasant Uprising ).

In 1980 Richter was one of the founding members of the Grenzach-Wyhlen e. V. In 1983 the remains of a Roman villa were found in Grenzach and Richter arranged for a protective structure to be erected, which was inaugurated in 1986 as the Roman Villa Museum . The archeology working group headed by Richter was able to secure numerous Roman finds at a total of 17 settlement sites in the Grenzach - Schwörstadt - Brombach area.

In 1969 Richter was also on the board of the Markgräflerland Working Group for History and Regional Studies e. V. active - initially as Vice Chairman and member of the editorial team of the magazine Das Markgräflerland , of which he has been editor since 1987. Richter published more than 130 of his own articles in this journal. In 1990 he also took over the first chairmanship, which he held until 2011 and again since 2014. In 2011 he was also elected honorary chairman of the association, which has now been renamed the Markgräflerland History Association.

In 1972 Richter became honorary commissioner for the preservation of monuments in the Lörrach district.

Richter died on July 16, 2019.

In addition to the more than 100 articles in the journal Das Markgräflerland , Richter has also published and published in a number of other journals (e.g. diary sheets of the Association for Local History and Folklore eV Weil am Rhein; annual issue of the Association for Local History Grenzach-Wyhlen) also published some books.
