The Hans-Thoma-Gymnasium (HTG) is a general education high school in Lörrach and is named after the painter and graphic artist Hans Thoma, who came from the Black Forest . With over 1300 students, the Hans-Thoma-Gymnasium is the largest high school in South Baden.

history

The school, which first public school was called, was founded 1899th In 1912 the name was changed to Realschule , from the school year 1927/1928 to Oberrealschule . In 1929, ten students passed their first Abitur . In 1948 the school was given its current name.

The old school building in Baumgartnerstraße and the old sports hall were built in Art Nouveau style between 1909 and 1911 and are now a listed building . In 1966 and 1999/2000 the building capacity was increased considerably by large extensions.

Until 1997 the grammar school was only mathematically and scientifically oriented. Since then, it has also offered a modern language branch. In addition, a new profile subject called IMP has been offered since the 2018/2019 school year. This combines the subjects of mathematics , physics and computer science . Due to its proximity to France , the Hans-Thoma-Gymnasium has offered French as the first foreign language since the 1971/72 school year . There is cooperation with the neighboring Hebel high school, especially in the upper level .

In April 2007 the “phaenovum” student research center Lörrach-Dreiländereck eV was founded by people interested in natural science, the city administration and regional companies with the aim of promoting the education of young people in science and research. The phaenovum is affiliated with the HTG and deals with the research areas Physics / NanoSciences; Life Sciences / Biology, Chemistry; Information technology / robotics. The HTG cooperates with Lörrach International for international student encounters.

The cafeteria, shared by the Hans-Thoma-Gymnasium and the Hebel-Gymnasium, was completed in the 2008 Whitsun holidays. Despite the students' initial skepticism, it was painted a bright green (floor, walls and ceiling), with black tables and chairs. The student canteen has space for around 120 students, but there are expansion options so that it could cater for twice as many students.

After the 2008 Whitsun holidays, the school organized a 24-hour run in which students ran laps around the sports field and through the Rosenfelspark for money from sponsors. The money should go to the new student library. The run took place from Friday July 18th to Saturday July 19th and many students stayed in their classrooms. A total of around 30,000 euros were collected and ran over 10,000 km.

In 2012 another building was added, the TonArt, which is used by HTG, Hebel-Gymnasium and Theodor-Heuss-Realschule as an art and music building.

description

The buildings are divided into four parts, the old building -A-, the natural science building -NW-, the new building -N- and the TonArt -Music- or -Art-. The 38.5 meter high tower is the architectural dominant feature of the old building. In addition to the old hall, the much larger Rosenfelshalle and the sports field together with the Hebelgymnasium are also used for physical education. The TonArt is also used together with the Hebel-Gymnasium.
