Bernd Kretschmer

Bernd Kretschmer (born May 24, 1941 in Brieg , Silesia ) is a German teacher and founding president of the student research center phaenovum Lörrach- Dreiländereck.

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied physics and mathematics at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg and at the Free University in Berlin. After graduating in theoretical physics and completing his legal traineeship, he accepted a position at the Hans-Thoma-Gymnasium in Lörrach in 1970 . As early as 1977 he was appointed director of studies and specialist advisor at the Freiburg High School Office. In this capacity he led further training events for teachers, such as B. on quantum physics and chaos research . In addition, for 15 years he was the High School Office's representative for the promotion of gifted students in physics.

Since the 1970s, he has been promoting particularly capable students in physics in a working group and in 1989, together with Rudolf Lehn, founded a preparatory seminar for participants in the Physics Olympiad . Since 1995 he and his colleagues have been preparing students for the annual International Young Physicists´ Tournament (IYPT). Between 1995 and 2011, the German team he and Rudolf Lehn supervised reached the Physics World Cup five times . Other international competitions in which students he trained excelled include the International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) and the Quanta competition in India. At Jugend forscht , pupils from the AG achieved regional, state and national victories. Bernd Kretschmer is co-author of physics textbooks a. a. Dorn and Bader Physics 11/12, ISBN 978-3-507-10748-9 .

He was the initiator and founding president of the student research center Lörrach-Dreiländereck phaenovum. Summer courses held by Bernd Kretschmer gave an introduction to nanotechnology and enabled the students to work independently. Even after his retirement in August 2005, Bernd Kretschmer continues his work in the physics group. In 2010, the phaenovum's application to the nanoyou program funded by the European Union was successful. From 2010 to 2016 he was honorary president of the phaenovum.
