history

The grammar school refers to the continuing teaching tradition of a boys 'school (city school) since 1381. In 1853 the elementary school in the town hall was opened and in 1863 it was expanded into a " higher citizens' school ". In 1879 the higher middle school and the elementary school were relocated to the newly established Hindenburg school. In 1909 it was renamed Realgymnasium . In 1929 the school moved to the Villa Bally as a Realprogymnasium and in 1930 was named "Scheffel-Realgymnasium". After another renaming to “Scheffelschule, Oberschule für Jungs”, the grammar school became “Vollanstalt” in 1938. In 1955 a new building was moved into and in 1964 the gym was inaugurated. In 1976, Villa Bally was demolished to make way for the 1978 and 2002 extensions. The school cafeteria was inaugurated for the 2012/2013 school year.
