Hans Jochen Genthe
Hans Jochen Genthe (born July 27, 1927 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † August 5, 2020 in Erfurt ) was a German Protestant theologian , lecturer for the New Testament , church historian and author .
Life
Hans Jochen Genthe was a soldier in the Luftwaffe news group in World War II , where he was taken prisoner by the Americans in 1943. After graduating from high school in 1946, he studied Protestant theology in Bethel and Berlin . From 1955 he was parish priest in Dörna and in 1962 he moved to Erfurt, where he became pastor at the Kaufmannskirche and until his retirement in 1992 as a lecturer for the New Testament at the Evangelical Preacher's School in Erfurt , founded in 1948 in Wittenberg .
In 1970 he received his doctorate from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with his dissertation on the subject of the specific meaning of Katá with the accusative in the theological statements of the Apostle Paul .
He took an active part in the political change in the GDR and in the uncovering of the Stasi documents in Erfurt. In order to bring theology closer to laypeople as well, he published books such as With the Eyes of Research. Brief History of New Testament Research . Since 2007 he has been working on a new translation of the Bible that remains very close to the original text, offers background information on all biblical scriptures and is accessible online at bibelbuch.de.
Hans Jochen Genthe lived in Eschwege after his retirement , but moved back to Erfurt in 2017 and lived there until his death on August 5, 2020.
