Vyacheslav Stepanowytsch Brjuchowezkyj (born July 14, 1947 in Ordzhonikidze , North Ossetian ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian philologist , literary critic, former rector and since 2007 honorary president of the National University of Kiev-Mohyla-Academy in Kiev .
Life
Vyacheslav Brjuchowezkyj was born in the capital of what is now the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and shortly afterwards moved with his parents to Cherkassy in Ukraine , where he also went to school. In 1966 he graduated as a nutrition technician at the Institute of Food Industry in Smila and then worked in Odessa, among other places . In 1967/68 he did his military service in the Red Army and in 1968 became a member of the CPSU , which he remained until 1990. Between 1973 and 1976 he was the correspondent and head of the criticism of the newspaper "Literature Ukraine" and studied journalism until 1974 at the Faculty of Journalism of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev .
Brjuchowezkyj has been a candidate in pedagogical sciences since 1980 and a doctorate in philology since 1986. From 1982 to 1990, Brjuchowezkyj headed the department of literary theory at the Literature Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine . In 1982 he became a member of the National Association of Writers of Ukraine . In 1989 he was one of the initiators of the People's Movement of Ukraine . In the years 1989-90 he taught as a visiting professor at Rutgers University in the United States and the University of the Canadian Manitoba . From September 19, 1991 he was rector, from 1994 president and from 2007 honorary president of the National University of Kiev-Mohyla Academy.
In 2005, Brjuchowezkyj became a member of the Commission for the award of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine and in 2006 he was a brief candidate for the Our Ukraine party, a member of the Kiev City Council. He is also a member of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO . Brjuchowezkyj is the author of over 400 publications, including 7 books.
