Hans Korfer

Hans Körfer (born November 2, 1910 in Düsseldorf ; † October 31, 1972 there ) was a German sports journalist and football official.

Life

As a sports journalist, Hans Körfer reported on six soccer world championships , for the first time in 1934 on the World Cup in Italy for the Düsseldorf daily Der Mittag . After the Second World War , Hans Körfer reported as head of soccer for the Sport-Informations-Dienst (SID).

As a student, Körfer joined the Fortuna Düsseldorf soccer club . At the age of 15 he held his first office as secretary of the youth department. This was followed by the post as press officer, as vice chairman of the association, twice as managing director (1938–1940 and 1945–1951) and as head of the contract department. Körfer discovered the later amateur national player Matthias Mauritz (until then hockey and tennis player) for football.

At the German Football Association, Hans Körfer worked from 1950 as (honorary) chairman of the game committee. During his term of office, the 1954 World Cup was won by the German Football Association and the introduction of the Bundesliga , in the preparation of which Hans Körfer played a key role.

On his 50th birthday, the DFB awarded Hans Körfer the golden badge of honor. His association Fortuna Düsseldorf made him an honorary member in 1965. Körfer died at the age of just 62 years of complications from a heart attack.
