Hans Kalbfell (born May 16, 1930 in Willich , † March 23, 1984 in Hagen ) was a German heavyweight boxer.

Professional career

Kalbfell, who weighed around 90 kg when he was active, began boxing professionally in 1955. In November 1956 he was defeated by the Frenchman Robert Duquesne, whom he had already defeated in April of the same year, over eight rounds on points. A few months later he competed in Essen against the light heavyweight legend Archie Moore in a ten-round fight with Max Schmeling as referee and lost another point decision.

He then lost prematurely to the British Dick Richardson , but was able to win the German heavyweight championship against Heinz Neuhaus on September 14, 1957 . However, this was followed by a point defeat against Henry Cooper and the loss of the championship title to Albert Westphal by technical knockout in the fifth round.

In April 1959 the successful revenge succeeded, he beat Westphal early in the rematch. After he also knocked out the undefeated Italian Giacomo Bozzano , he got a chance to fight for the vacant European Championship. Opponent was again Dick Richardson on March 27, 1960 in Dortmund , to whom he also lost prematurely in the second encounter.

Kalbfell then beat the well-known US American Tommy Jackson and tried it a third time against the European champion Richardson in 1961. Again he lost, but this time only on points. In fights for the German championship, he was then again defeated by Westphal and Erich Schöppner and then ended his career.

After the career

Kalbfell stayed in Hagen-Haspe after his career and worked as a taxi operator. After a serious illness, he died on March 23, 1984.
