life and work

Klocker is mentioned for the first time in 1474 in Sterzing and is recorded in Brixen from 1478 to 1498 . In her dissertation, Gisela Scheffler comes to the conclusion that Klocker is identical with the Brixen episcopal court painter Hans Maler, a student of Master Leonhard . Numerous works, especially altars, for churches in the Bressanone and Bozen area are ascribed to him in the written documents. One of the most famous is the Traminer Altar with the motif of the adoration of the child, which is now in the Bavarian National Museum in Munichis located. Klocker was probably the head of a large workshop that made complete altars, including figures and paintings. 1497–1498 Klocker was mayor of Brixen. The last documented work is the retable of the former Franciscan church in Bozen from 1500.
