Hans Krech (historian)

Hans Krech (born June 21, 1956 in Halle an der Saale ) is a German historian and author .

Life

Krech studied history at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and was in 1984 when John Glasneck at the Institute of General History of Dr. phil. PhD. In 1984 he was expelled from the SED on the basis of the false assumption that he was writing a critical book about socialism . He was banned from working and was monitored by the Stasi . As a result of his ban from working, he was labeled as anti-social and criminal and threatened with prison. After his repeated requests to leave the country, his citizenship was revoked on September 20, 1989 and he had to leave the GDR by midnight. For this reason he finally moved to the Federal Republic. In 1990/91 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy (IFSH) at the University of Hamburg . Since 1991 he has been a research assistant and freelancer at the German Orient Institute in Hamburg. He is considered an expert on security policy , especially the Persian Gulf, the Balkans and the Caucasus.

From 2001 to 2016, Krech was Managing Director of the Scientific Forum for International Security (WIFIS) at the Management Academy of the Federal Armed Forces (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. Before the fall of the Wall, he was a reserve officer of the NVA , today he holds the rank of captain of the reserve of the Army Bundeswehr. Krech was u. a. involved in the training of ISAF soldiers.

From the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Krech was deputy district chairman of the FDP Othmarschen / Flottbek. and as a Middle East expert in the FDP Federal Committee for International Politics advises the foreign policy makers of the FDP parliamentary group.

Krech is a member of the German-Caucasian Society
