Hans Meier-Ott

Hans Meier-Ott (until his marriage in 1949 Hans Meier ; born September 17, 1920 in Niederurnen ; † October 13, 2008 ibid) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician ( CVP ).

biography

After a commercial apprenticeship, he became the owner of a company for scrap iron and metals. From 1947 to 1968 he was a member of the municipal council of Niederurnen , from 1959 as its president. In 1953 he was elected to the Glarus District Administrator . He became president of the Conservative Christian Social People's Party (later CVP) of the Canton of Glarus. In 1966 he was elected to the government council, where he headed the Interior Directorate, from 1974 the Finance Directorate. In 1971 he was also state governor (government vice-president), and from 1973 to 1978 he was landammann (district president). From 1971 to 1977 he was also President of the Commission for the Total Revision of the Cantonal Constitution. In 1978 he was elected to the Council of States  . There he was a member of the parliamentary office, the business audit commission, the finance delegation and the commissions for foreign trade, transport, tax harmonization and federal financial reform. He was president of the CVP Council of States group. In 1986 he resigned as a councilor and in 1990 as a councilor. Meier was also a board member of Eternit Schweiz AG .

Meier-Ott was married to Anna Louise Ott since 1949.
