Hans Meier

Hans Meier (born May 19, 1933 in Uetikon am See ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP , Greens , later Green Liberal Party ).

Hans Meier worked as a primary school teacher in Zurich from 1954 to 1956 and then completed his training as a secondary school teacher (phil. II.). From 1959 to 1988 he worked as a secondary teacher in Glattfelden .

Originally, Hans Meier was a member of the Free Citizens of Glattfelden . In 1970 he joined the farmers, trade and citizens' party newly founded there , which soon after became SVP. From 1974 to 1982 he was a member of the municipal council (executive) in Glattfelden. In 1978 he resigned from the SVP after it threatened to expel him. In 1982 he joined the Green Party, which at the time did not see itself as a left-wing party. The following year he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council, and in 1987 to the National Council . There he was a member of the business audit commission and the security policy commission. From 1984 to 1992 he was President of the Green Party of the Canton of Zurich. In the 1987 cantonal elections, the Green Party multiplied its number of seats from 4 to 22. In 1999, Hans Meier resigned from the National Council. In 2000 he was elected to the Zurich Constitutional Council. In 2004 he joined the newly founded Green Liberal Party. In 2007 he was re-elected to the Cantonal Council for the GLP. In 2009 he finally resigned. Throughout his life, Hans Meier politicized independently of the left-right scheme. The ecology was his greatest concern. He was given the nickname "green Hans".

Meier was a captain in the Swiss army. He is not married.
