Hans Metzger

Hans Metzger (born May 31, 1879 in Egenburg (municipality of Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn ), † December 16, 1957 in Munich ) was a German painter.

He was born the son of the barrel painter Max Metzger and took over his father's profession, as was customary at the time. In 1902 he was accepted at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he learned from Professor Gabriel von Hackl .

After leaving the academy, he mainly worked as a fresco painter . In 1914 Metzger was called up and sent to France, where he lost his left leg in Verdun . Since then he has walked with a prosthetic leg and a cane. He had to give up the work as a fresco painter and worked as a painter. He often painted the Upper Bavarian landscape with its beauties. Contacts to Adolf Hölzel , Hans Huber-Sulzemoos , Julius Kreis , Georg Queri , Fritz Randlkofer , Ignatius Taschner , Ludwig Thoma , Gustav Traub and Albert Weisgerber are known. Hans Metzger died on December 16, 1957 in Munich and was buried in the Ostfriedhof .
