Live and act

Hans Michel comes from Strasbourg and received citizenship of Basel free of charge in 1574 due to his artistry. In return, in 1580, he donated the statue of Munatius Plancus to the city in the courtyard of Basel's town hall . His other works include the relief of St. Fridolin with death in the gable of the monastery building in Säckingen (1575), statues of Saint Mauritius (1577) and the Madonna (1582) as fountain figures in Delémont , the epitaph of Anna Alexandra von Rappoltstein, b. Countess Fürstenberg, in Rappoltsweiler as well as a Jupiter torso for the lawyer and collector Basilius Amerbach (around 1585/1587, today in the Basel Historical Museum ).

Hans Michel is possibly identical to the sculptor Hans Michel Egner, who worked in Strasbourg in the later 16th century. His son Balthasar Michel was also a sculptor.
