Basil Amerbach
Basilius Amerbach (born December 1, 1533 in Basel ; † April 25, 1591 ibid) was a lawyer and art collector from Basel. He was the only son of the lawyer and humanist Bonifacius Amerbach .
From 1549 to 1560 he worked in Basel, Tübingen , Padua , Bologna , Rome , Naples and Bourges . He was allowed to complete a legal internship in Speyer . He worked as a teacher and legal counsel. From 1561 he was a professor at the University of Basel and immediately became rector ; he then held this office three more times (1566, 1580 and 1588). He also built the so-called Amerbach Cabinet, a cabinet of curiosities , and in this context gave orders to the painter Hans Bock the Elder . He maintained correspondence with Johann Jakob Rüeger and his friend Felix Platter, among others .

He produced handwritten dissertations and a collection of letters. He is not aware of any printed fonts. He was married to Esther Rüdin; his son Bonifaciolus died at the age of four months.
