Hans Molfenter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Molfenter (born June 21, 1884 in Neu-Ulm , † November 22, 1979 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter.

Life

Hans Molfenter studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy with Gustav Igler and Friedrich von Keller and later worked in Stuttgart. He carried the title of professor. Study visits are booked for Hamburg , Munich and Tunis .

Animals were among Molfenter's favorite subjects. During a several-day visit to the country home on Tachenee of Otto Reiniger painted Molfenter his image turkey, poultry farm on Tachensee .

Molfenter lived and worked in the north of Stuttgart, not far from the art academy, yet far from the art world, which he was skeptical of. In 1974 the Stuttgarter Nachrichten wrote a brief note on the occasion of his 90th birthday that he had “barely emerged since 1945” and continued: “Today, when realism is fashion, this Stuttgart master from the twenties could certainly count on interest again . ”One of the few who sponsored him was Eugen Keuerleber , director of the Stuttgart City Gallery .

Hans Molfenter Prize

Hans Molfenter received regular financial support from the city of Stuttgart. After his death it turned out that he had never spent the money and that he had designated the city of Stuttgart as his sole heir in his will. A prize could therefore be donated from the assets. The Hans Molfenter Prize is awarded to visual artists who are associated with the south-west of Germany. It was awarded every two years from 1983 to 1995, and has been held every three years since 1995. The prize is currently (as of 2012) endowed with 16,000 euros and is indivisible. A jury made up of representatives of the municipal councils, the director of the gallery of the city of Stuttgart and eight public figures, chaired by the Stuttgart mayor, will decide on the award.
