Career

Sørensen, who started for the IL Mebonden , made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 , where he achieved his best tour result of his career with fifth place in the first competition in Oberstdorf . In Innsbruck he jumped to 10th place, in Bischofshofen to 15th place. In the end, he reached 10th place in the tour's overall ranking.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Sørensen jumped from the normal hill to eighth place. A short time later he won the bronze medal on the normal hill at the Norwegian Championships in Voss behind Torgeir Brandtzæg and Toralf Engan .

At the Four Hills Tournament 1965/66 Sørensen could not build on the results of 1963/64. After a 14th place in Oberstdorf, he jumped to 18th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . After another 24th place in Innsbruck, he finished the tour with a seventh place in Bischofshofen. In the overall standings, he reached seventh place, which he was able to place better than 1963/64 despite poorer individual placements. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , Sørensen achieved 26th place on the large hill.

In Rena Sørensen won the bronze medal at the Norwegian Championships in 1966 from the normal hill for the second time after 1964, this time behind Bjørn Wirkola and Toralf Engan. He only had to admit defeat to Wirkola on the large hill and won silver ahead of Willy Johansen.

From 1962 to 1964 Sørensen held the hill record with 81 meters on Kløvsteinbakken in Meldal.
