Hans Pum (born July 4, 1954 in Freistadt , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian ski sport functional and former alpine ski trainer . From 1996 to 2010 he held the office of Alpine Director in the Austrian Ski Association , from 2010 to 2019 he was responsible for all disciplines as sports director .

biography

Hans Pum was born in Freistadt and lives in St. Oswald near Freistadt . In his youth he was active as a ski racer, soccer player and swimmer, so he decided to train as a sports teacher and trainer. From 1977 he was in charge of the ÖSV's European Cup team as a fitness trainer. Between 1985 and 1988 he worked as a technical trainer, then until 1992 as racing director of the men's team. After an engagement as Marketing Director, he took over the post of Sports Director Alpin in 1996. This meant that he held the highest position in this division within the ÖSV and was only subordinate to President Peter Schröcksnadel in the association hierarchy . In this role, he and the then men's head coach Toni Giger are considered to be the driving force behind the great successes of Austrian alpine skiing.

After the Austrian men's team performed without a medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , the ÖSV was restructured. The Mühlviertler deduced the 2010/11 season, the unit high-performance sports and served as sports director for all divisions of the Association, including among others also ski jumping , snowboard and biathlon , in charge. In July 2019, he resigned from this office after nine winters.

successes

During Pum's time as alpine director (1996–2010) the greatest Austrian successes in alpine skiing occurred with athletes such as Hermann Maier , Stephan Eberharter , Benjamin Raich , Michaela Dorfmeister , Alexandra Meissnitzer and Renate Götschl . In total, the ski racers of the ÖSV won 38 Olympic medals , ten of them in gold, 62 World Championship medals , of which 20 in gold, and 62 crystal balls , eleven of them for the overall World Cup.

While he was responsible for all sections of the ÖSV as sports director, the athletes he supervised won 27 Olympic medals, 8 of them in gold, 106 World Cup medals, of which 35 were in gold and - exclusive national ratings - 53 crystal balls, 18 of which were for victories in the overall World Cup plus numerous successes in disabled sports .
