Hans Freiherr von Rokitansky (born March 8, 1835 in Vienna ; † November 1, 1909 at Laubegg Castle, Styria , Austria ) was an Austrian opera singer (bass) and singing teacher.

Life

The son of the singer Maria Anna Weiss, trained by Antonio Salieri, and her husband Carl von Rokitansky studied in Vienna and Paris and made his debut in Bellini's Norma in 1857. Hans Rokitansky had appearances in Bologna , Florence , Turin and Milan and in 1862 was employed at the German State Theater in Prague . He sang at the Court Opera in Vienna from 1864 to 1893. He played the high priest in Karl Goldmark's opera The Queen of Sheba in Vienna in 1875. Rokitansky was also known as an excellent Wagner interpreter. He mastered the bel canto lecture and the French grand opéra style.

The family grave is located in the Hernalser Friedhof in Vienna (Arkaden right, number 24).
