Sanders' work includes works on Romance literatures from the 12th to the 20th centuries, including the theory of art and literary theory . The literary-historical starting point during the 1970s was on the literature of the 19th and 20th centuries ( Zola , Nouveau Roman etc.). Using these topics as an example, the dissertation develops the outline of a historical-sociological literary study emancipated from the traditional concept of reflection.
A series of investigations followed since the 1980s ( Das Subject der Moderne , 1987; Lebenswelten , 2013), which initially extended the narrow time horizon to the 17th and 18th centuries ( Boileau , Mme de Lafayette , Rousseau etc.) expand towards the French Middle Ages ( Chrétien de Troyes ). The French and Italian Renaissance ( Montaigne , Cardano , Cellini , Guicciardini , Machiavelli ) are of particular importance . All of the works deal with the complex relationships between literary history and general history.
In the nineties, the focus of work was on the aesthetic field: timing. For an Aesthetics of the Lifeworld (2001) develops the early literary theoretic approaches to a theory of aesthetic experience that grasps its place beyond discursive truth, however understood. The book Zeitwende , published in 2018 . Small theories of the new world should also be read as an attempt to explain the theoretical-philosophical prerequisites underlying or accompanying the entire work of literary history, which remain latent in normal science ( Thomas S. Kuhn ).
