Erich Köhler (Romanist)
Erich Köhler (born March 9, 1924 in Langenau ; † June 3, 1981 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Romance studies and literary scholar .
Live and act
Köhler, who took part in the battle of Stalingrad at the age of eighteen and spent two years in the hospital, studied in Leipzig with Hans-Georg Gadamer , Theodor Litt , Hermann August Korff , Theodor Frings , Ernst Bloch , Eduard von Jan , Philipp August Becker and Werner Krauss . He received his doctorate from Krauss in 1950 with a work inspired by Becker on the history of the ancient Provencal contested poem . As assistant to Hellmuth Petriconi , he completed his habilitation in Hamburg in 1955 with ideal and reality in the courtly epic . The work became a standard work. From 1958 to 1970 he was full professor for Romance Philology at the University of Heidelberg , from 1970 to 1981 at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau as the successor to Hugo Friedrich . Köhler had been a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences since 1967 . His academic students included Ulrich Mölk , Fritz Nies , Matthias Walz , Karlheinz Bender , Dietmar Rieger , Henning Krauss and the Romance studies scholar Karl Kunze (born 1934) from Breslau.
Köhler's estate is in the Augsburg University Archives . In his birthplace Langenau, a street was named after him (Doctor Erich Köhler-Straße).
