Hans Schabes

Hans Schabes (born December 5, 1883 in Vienna ; † May 12, 1960 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

After five classes of elementary school and one class of community school, Hans Schabes learned the trade of machinist . In 1907, however, he became a police officer in Vienna. He was there for 27 years, until 1934. Most recently, he held the rank of district inspector .

In May 1927 he became a social democratic member of the Federal Council , which he was to belong to until February 1934.

In 1934 Schabes emigrated to Czechoslovakia . Here he was in charge of the refugee center established by the Austrian Socialists' office until 1936. In 1939 Schabes fled to Great Britain , where he soon became a member of the London office of the Austrian Socialists . He was also a member of Young Austria , one of the most important emigrant organizations in Austria during the Second World War .

Hans Schabes returned to Austria in 1946. Here he was again a police officer in the same year. In 1949 he was raised to the rank of lieutenant colonel .
