Hans Schliessmann (born February 6, 1852 in Mainz , † February 14, 1920 in Vienna ) was an Austrian draftsman and caricaturist.

Life

Hans Schliessmann came to Austria as a child (1857). In 1866 he became a volunteer at the Waldheim Xylographic Institute . From 1874 he worked for the humoristic papers and from 1880 for the satirical magazine Kikeriki . Between 1881 and 1890 he worked for the weekly newspaper Wiener Luft , later only for the Münchener Fliegende Blätter .

Hanns Schliessmann was buried in the Hietzinger Friedhof in an honorary grave (group 49, number 123).

In 1923, the Schliessmanngasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.

Although Schliessmann had no academic training, he was a popular draftsman and caricaturist of Viennese folk life. His preferred types were musicians, athletes, and the military. In addition to his work for various magazines, he presented the Viennese people's life in words and pictures (1886) in the volume of the Austrian Monarchy relating to Vienna and Lower Austria .
