Otto Hugo Hans Schwedler (born October 17, 1878 in Berlin ; † May 2, 1945 in Hechendorf ) was a German police chief and officer , most recently an SS brigade leader and major general of the Waffen SS .

biography

After finishing school, Schwedler embarked on a military career. He became a lieutenant in 1898 . He served in World War I , most recently in 1918 as a company and battalion commander. In February 1919 he was discharged from the army with several awards with the rank of major.

Since 1920 he was a member of the Stahlhelm , since 1931 a member of the NSDAP (membership number 455.899) and the SS (membership number 60.740). With the beginning of the National Socialism in 1933 he was promoted in quick succession to SS-Scharführer , SS-Oberscharführer, SS-Sturmführer and SS-Obersturmführer and in 1934 to SS-Hauptsturmführer . From December 1934 he was at the SS Junkerschule Bad Tölz , initially as a trainer and from January 1938 to July 1940 as deputy commander. At the beginning of 1940 he was promoted to SS-Oberführer and after the beginning of the Second World War he was in charge of the inspection of the SS skull associations. In German-occupied Poland he was SS and Police Leader (SSPF) in the Krakow district of the so-called General Government from early October 1940 to early August 1941 . In August 1941 he was promoted to SS-Oberführer. He then was SS site commander in Prague until March 1942 and subsequently headed the supply command of the Waffen SS and police in the German-occupied area of ​​South Russia. In November 1942 he was finally promoted to SS Brigadefuhrer and Major General of the Waffen SS. From August 1943 he worked in the SS Leadership Main Office, where he was initially head of Office XI / Office Group B and, from autumn 1944, Inspector of Communications and Head of Telecommunications in Office Group C. Schwedler took his own life on May 2, 1945.
