Hans Steinlein

Hans Steinlein (born November 1, 1911 in Wirsberg , Kulmbach district , † December 31, 1945 in Erlangen ) was a German geologist.

Steinlein went to school in Kulmbach and Bayreuth and studied in Munich, Göttingen and Erlangen. He passed the state examination for higher teaching post in Erlangen in 1937 and received his doctorate in geology in 1938 under Bruno von Freyberg . He then worked as an assistant at the Geological Institute and, after completing his habilitation in 1944, was a private lecturer. He died at the end of 1945 of injuries from his time as a pilot in the Air Force in World War II (he did military service from 1939 to 1945 with a brief interruption in 1943/44). Freyberg published some of his writings posthumously, including his habilitation on the red sandstone on the western edge of the Bohemian Massif. Steinlein could no longer tackle the petrographic part of this ( Walter Alexander Schnitzer later qualified as a professor at Freyberg).

He had been married since 1939 and had children.
