Hans Wagener (Germanist)

Hans Wagener (born July 27, 1940 in Lage ; † June 12, 2013 in Los Angeles ) was a German specialist in German .

Life

Hans Wagener studied German and history in Münster and Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1967 from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Since 1968 he has been teaching at the University of California in Los Angeles as a chair holder (“Chair Germanic Languages”) and professor for German and German literature with a focus on the baroque and 20th century . In 1997/98 Hans Wagener was director of the UCLA EAP program at the University of Göttingen .

Wagener published over 30 books and numerous scientific papers. He is the author of several monographs, including a. about Erich Kästner , Gabriele Wohmann , Sarah Kirsch , Carl Zuckmayer , Siegfried Lenz and Lion Feuchtwanger as well as known as the "Reclam" author. 2004 Together with Johanna Schrön and Gunther Nickel, he was editor of Zuckmayer's report on Germany for the War Department of the United States of America (Wallstein 2004).

He was considered an expert on the work of Christian Friedrich Hunold .
