Hans Wallner (born June 14, 1865 in Graz , Austria , † January 19, 1941 in Munich ) was an Austrian theater director , singer and actor who worked in German silent and sound films .

Life

Born in Graz, he began his artistic activity in the kuk province. At the beginning of the 20th century he can be proven as an actor, director and singer on the stages in Aussig and Mährisch-Ostrau before arriving in Berlin on the eve of the First World War .

There Wallner made his debut in German silent films at the age of almost 50. At the beginning of his career in 1914 he appeared in two silent crime films as an accomplice of the criminal king Lepain. After 1919 he usually represented more sedate gentlemen such as professors and mayors, but in 1920 he resumed the role of accomplice in other Lepain episodes. He got smaller appearances in other silent detective and adventure films in the 1920s.

At the beginning of the sound film he played from 1930 to 1932 in the Harry Piel films He or I , The Secret Agent and Jonny Steals Europe . In the late 1930s and 1940s, Wallner embodied mostly subordinate figures such as servants or head waiter, who gained sympathy through a certain age-mild wisdom.
