Hans Weiler

Hans N. Weiler (born September 13, 1934 in Krefeld ) is a German-born American university professor.

Life

He is Professor Emeritus of Education and Political Science at Stanford University (1965–1993) and Professor Emeritus of Comparative Political Science. Since October 14, 1993 he was the first rector of the new European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) . Gesine Schwan became his successor on October 11, 1999.

After a council of experts appointed by the state assessed the development planning of the University of Wuppertal particularly critically in 2001 , Minister Behler appointed Weiler as mediator. His reform concept from July 2002 proposed the reallocation of numerous professorships and the establishment of a new faculty for educational research. In 2003 the first three professorships in the new faculty were advertised.

Hans N. Weiler was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 1999 and the First Class Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2001 for his commitment in the construction years of the Viadrina . He has been an honorary doctorate from the university since 2002. On June 12, 2012, Weiler received the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg .
